Petal Perfection was my first experience creating a video game as a team project. Although the game itself was ultimately left unfinished, it was nonetheless a very useful learning experience, and I’m still proud of what we did accomplish.
In Petal Perfection, the player takes the role of a florist, and through a series of small minigames, they play through the process of creating a bouquet of flowers for a customer. This gameplay style was intended as a throwback to browser games, specifically the kind hosted on Coolmath Games or GirlsGoGames or similar websites, with Papa’s Pizzeria being a specific inspiration.
Gameplay starts with taking an order from a customer and hearing the specific purpose that they want their bouquet for:

Each customer’s order is associated with a certain set of motivations – we landed on the five categories of Love, Friendship, Positivity, Prosperity, and Consolation as the primary reasons why a person would want flowers – and the player’s task is to create a bouquet that matches those motivations, with each flower contributing to one or more categories based on our research into historical flower symbolism.
