Hello world!

I always feel a need to set up a formal introduction whenever I start something new, and this blog is no exception (even though I already have an “about me” page…), so here we go.

I’m not going to go through my full personal introduction in this post – you can find that here. Instead, I want to use this space to talk about my plans for this blog going forward, in case you’re reading this before I’ve written all the pieces I have in mind right now.

One type of post that will be a recurring feature here are 100-Word Mini-Reviews, a writing challenge that I came up with in summer 2025. When discussing subjects that I care about (especially when it comes to games) I tend to write at length until I feel as though I’ve recorded every thought I have, which makes staying concise into an interesting challenge. In the immortal words of Blaise Pascal:

“I have made this letter longer than usual, because I lack the time to make it short.”

So whenever I finish a game, I write a short review, and then take the extra time to squeeze it into the extreme brevity of only 100 words. You’ll see a lot of these on this blog.

You’ll also see more extensive posts that I call Game Design Notes, which will generally be a much deeper analysis of a very specific game feature – sometimes taking a single sentence from one of my mini-reviews and expanding it into a full post. The first post in this category will probably be a full write-up of my research project from last semester, on the topic of mixing turn-based and real-time elements in RPG combat. (I consider that project my favorite game design piece I’ve worked on so far, so I’m really looking forward to publishing it in full.)

Outside of game design posts, I also want to use this as a space for more personal writing. I’ve done a great deal of exploring my own identity in the past few years, and part of how I handle that process is through my relationship to certain fictional characters (often from games, but not always). Since this will inevitably flow into any other media analysis I write, I want to publish these thoughts up front. Working name for these posts is How I Relate To…. I currently have plans for three of these posts, and this may or may not be a recurring series after that.

Finally (for now), I’ll also post updates on whatever Current Projects I’m working on – whether those be in game design, writing, math, or any other field I focus on in the future.

If any of that sounds interesting, I hope you’ll stick around and see what I have to say!
